Special Assembly elections tomorrow -- Don't forget to vote!

Special primary elections will be held tomorrow April 5 for three vacant state Assembly seats left by Republicans joining the Walker Administration:  former Rep. Mike Huebsch of the 94th Assembly District left to serve as Secretary of the Department of Administration (DOA); former Rep. Mark Gottlieb of the 60th Assembly District left to serve as the Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOT); and former Rep. Scott Gunderson of the 83rd Assembly District left to serve as Executive Assistant of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The special general election for these three vacant seats will be held May 3rd. The Pro-Life Wisconsin Victory Fund political action committee (PAC) has proudly endorsed the following candidates in tomorrow’s special primary elections:

60th Assembly District (portions of Ozaukee and Washington counties):
•    Jake Curtis
•    Rik Kluessendorf
•    Paul Melotik
•    Tim Schwister
•    John Soper
•    Duey Stroebel
•    Gary Wickert

94th Assembly District (portions of Monroe and La Crosse counties):
•    John Lautz

The 83rd Assembly District (portions of Waukesha, Walworth, and Racine counties) does not have a Republican primary election. In the May 3 general election, lone Republican candidate Dave Craig will face the winner of tomorrow’s Democratic primary election. The PLW Victory Fund PAC has endorsed Dave Craig.

For those of you who live in the 60th and 94th Assembly Districts, tomorrow’s special primary elections are too important to miss. Plan to exercise your right to vote tomorrow, April 5, and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Vote for life, and may God bless Wisconsin!

Wausau library backs down from decision to censor "Blood Money" showing

We are happy to report that the "Blood Money" showing on Sunday went off without a hitch. The showing was filled to capacity. Three pro-aborts were outside the library protesting. The attendance was mostly due to the national attention the "Blood Money" showing received, and many hearts and minds were opened and changed. We are very proud of 40 Days for Life of Wausau and our affiliate members for sticking to their pro-life convictions!

From LifeSiteNews:
The Wisconsin library that cancelled the showing of a pro-life movie earlier this week has now rescinded their decision after a lawsuit was filed against them.

The lawsuit was filed by 40 Days for Life of Wausau, which rented the facility.

The Wausau library had revoked permission at the last minute for the group to host a screening of the film Blood Money on library premises April 3. The library had pointed to a Facebook page indicating that pro-abortion activists were planning on protesting the screening as reason for cancelling the event.

Lawyers with the Thomas More Society (TMS), a pro-life public interest law firm representing the 40 Days for Life chapter, filed the suit earlier this week, which claimed that the library was censoring and suppressing the free speech rights of 40 Days for Life of Wausau.

40 hour perpetual prayer vigil in La Crosse

From Friday, March 25 (Feast of the Annunciation) through Sunday, March 27, pro-lifers observed 40 hours of prayer in La Crosse, in conjunction with 40 Days for Life efforts occurring all over the world. 40 Days for Life of La Crosse, a PLW affiliate, organized the prayer vigil.

On March 25, Fr. Scheckel led a Eucharistic Procession from St. James the Less Church in La Crosse, past Options Clinic and back to St. James. The staff and students of Providence Academy joined the procession.

For 40 straight hours, from 3 pm Friday, March 25, through 7 am Sunday, March 27, simultaneous indoor and outdoor vigils were held – Adoration in St. James while the prayer vigil was taking place outside of Options. Concluded with Mass on Sunday March 27 at St. James.

Thank you to our priests for leading. Thank you to the La Crosse 40 Days for Life group for organizing. Thank you to the men for taking the nighttime hours.

Too many aborted

From the Madison Catholic Herald:
Many pro-choice advocates argue for abortion to be “safe, legal, and rare.”

But with the number of people killed by abortion in the United States topping 48 million since 1973, even the argument of “rare” is becoming less certain of an achievement. In 2008 alone, several hundred thousand more than the equivalent of the state of Rhode Island — the 43rd most populous state — was aborted.

Hidden within these numbers is the statistical fact that, proportionally, the hardest-hit populations in the U.S. are minorities, and in particular blacks. According to cumulated statistics, more African American children have been killed by abortions since 1973 than the total number of African American deaths from AIDS, violent crimes, accidents, cancer, and heart disease combined.

Ryan Bomberger, the co-founder of the Radiance Foundation, spoke in Madison on the need for greater awareness of this problem. His multimedia presentation at the Bishop O’Connor Center on March 23, “Human Dignity: The Power of Possibility,” was sponsored by Pro-Life Wisconsin, Vigil for Life of Madison, and the Diocese of Madison.
