Pro-Lifers Fight Back Against Media Blackout of Kermit Gosnell Trial
Despite testimonies of countless horrific crimesincluding the stabbing of delivered babies in the neck with scissors, severed baby body parts in jars, the deaths of two women, and many othersthe mainstream media has all but ignored the trial of infamous late-term abortionist, Kermit Gosnell.
But on Friday, pro-lifers around the world fought back against the imposed blackout, harnessing the power of social media to highlight the gruesome reality of Kermit Gosnell's baby butcher shop.
On Twitter, hundreds of tweets per second were posted with the keyword "Gosnell", making it the number one trending term all day Friday. On Facebook, images highlighting Gosnell's crimes were shared hundreds of thousands of times.
Finally, the media responded to the outcry and began covering the trial! Here are news stories from Friday highlighting the trial and pro-life social media campaign.

Bill banning sale and use of aborted fetal body parts to be introduced
State legislation prohibiting the sale and use of aborted human fetal body parts will be reintroduced this session. Authored by Representative Andre Jacque (R-Green Bay) and currently under circulation for co-sponsorship, the bill bans persons from knowingly and for valuable consideration acquiring, receiving, or transferring a fetal body part. It also bans persons from knowingly providing, receiving, or using for experimentation a fetal body part. Fetal body part is defined to mean a cell, tissue, organ, or other part of, or any material derived from any cell or tissue of, an unborn child who is aborted by an induced abortion.  Please click here to read PLW’s legislative memo urging co-sponsorship of the bill.
The University of Wisconsin (UW)-Madison is currently conducting medical research using aborted fetal tissue. The Wisconsin State Journal  reported last week that UW-Madison transplant surgeon Dr. Jon Odorico is using pancreatic tissue from aborted human fetuses to develop treatments for Type 1 diabetes. UW officials have been quick to attack the bill, claiming in a statement that the biomedical research UW-Madison is currently conducting using aborted fetal tissue is necessary for “developing potential treatments” and that there is “nothing…unethical” about what they are doing.  As always, they cite the millions of dollars their research draws to the state.
Despite the lengthy list of medical research projects benefiting from aborted fetal tissue, one cannot escape the fact that the benefit derives from human beings that are killed and experimented upon without their consent.  The ends do not justify the means. Preborn children killed by abortion deserve a proper burial, not lab experimentation. To be sure, fetal tissue can be obtained ethically from stillbirths and miscarriages with parents’ consent.  Although it may be more difficult to procure fetal tissue ethically, we expect Wisconsin’s research community to do so.
Several states have enacted similar prohibitions on the sale and experimentation of aborted fetal tissue, including Ohio, Illinois, Florida, Arizona and Oklahoma.  Wisconsin must also guarantee the highest ethical standards of academic research and medical care in our state.
Please CALL or EMAIL your state representative and state senator NOW and urge him or her to co-sponsor LRB 0143/2, legislation prohibiting the sale and use of aborted human fetal body parts.
