Pro-Life Wisconsin Takes Gospel of Life to College Campuses!

Photo: Emma Scuglik, Pro-Life Wisconsin's Outreach Director, speaking to students at UW Platteville.

As the semester for colleges winds down, passionate pro-life students are jumping at every last opportunity to spread the message to their campuses! This past week, pro-life students at UW Platteville and Viterbo University hosted a dynamic pro-life panel, addressing common misconceptions about the pro-life movement.

These events were not only for pro-life students, but they were also open to the whole student body and designed to attract those on the fence or even in opposition to engage in conversation and education!

At UW Platteville, the event was held outside in a common student area, attracting the curiosity of many passers by. Speakers included Emma Scuglik from Pro-Life Wisconsin, Will Goodman from the Servants of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Lisa Sommers from Rachel's Vineyard, Jennifer Lowery from Catholic Youth Expeditions, and Katie Stelter, from the film Metamorphosis.

Continue to pray for students fighting the battle to change hearts and minds on college campuses!

Alabama Supreme Court Affirms Personhood of Preborn Children

Recently, the Alabama Supreme Court took up a case involving a mother who was using illegal drugs while pregnant. Because the baby was harmed by the mother's drug use in utero, she was convicted under Alabama's law protecting children from chemical endangerment.

In an 8-1 decision, the Albama Supreme Court decided that the chemical endangerment law applied not only to born children, but to preborn children as well. In the ruling, the court issued a powerful affirmation of the personhood of the preborn human baby from the moment of conception:
Under the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, states have an obligation to provide to unborn children at any stage of their development the same legal protection from injury and death they provide to persons already born. Because a human life with a full genetic endowment comes into existence at the moment of conception, the self-evident truth that ‘all men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights’ encompasses the moment of conception."

Pope Francis: 'Abortion Compounds the Grief of Many Women'

In a meeting with African bishops last Friday, Pope Francis addressed many of the challenges facing the Church in an increasingly secularized world, including attacks on marriage, family life, and the sanctity of life. He especially decried the evil of abortion, saying:
Abortion compounds the grief of many women who now carry with them deep physical and spiritual wounds after succumbing to the pressures of a secular culture which devalues God’s gift of sexuality and the right to life of the unborn.
He concluded his remarks by calling bishops and priests to "give a consistent witness to the moral teaching of the Gospel" and to "not weaken in your resolve to teach the truth ‘in season and out of season’ sustained by prayer and discernment, and always with great compassion."
