Pro-life defense of babies conceived in rape

In response to a letter to the editor in the Dec. 7 Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, trying to sensationalize our position on abortion in the case of rape, Pro-Life Wisconsin's response was printed in Saturday's Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Read it here (or see text, below).

Pro-Life Wisconsin explains position

Pro-Life Wisconsin does oppose abortion in ALL cases.

Rape and incest are both criminal acts, and in our system of justice we punish the criminal. We do not punish the victim, nor do we punish the criminal's children.

Rape is an act of violence inflicted upon a woman. She is an innocent victim, and this knowledge may someday help her come to terms with the rape and rebuild her life. Abortion, on the other hand, is an act of violence that a mother inflicts on her own child. Through abortion, the mother becomes the aggressor, and this knowledge may haunt her long after she has dealt with the rape. Women - even those who were victims of sexual assault - have reported years of physical, emotional and psychological difficulty after their abortions. Abortion did not solve their problems; it merely created additional ones.

The compassionate response to rape is to meet the real needs of the mother. Providing life-affirming medical, financial and emotional care meets these needs, and pro-life groups across Wisconsin - more than 100 crisis pregnancy centers and groups like Life After Assault League - are doing this work.

Abortion takes the life of a living human being. The circumstances of conception may have been criminal, but the life of the newly-created human being is just as valuable as any other person's. We do not put criminal's innocent children to death in our culture; it simply isn't done.

It should not be done in this situation, either.

Empty manger Christmas caroling

On Christmas Eve day, Pro-Life Wisconsin and 40 Days for Life-Milwaukee will be singing Christmas carols from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. outside Affiliated Medical Services in Milwaukee. Join us! Affiliated is located at 1428 N. Farwell Ave.

We do not know if Affiliated will be open on Christmas Eve, but what better way to bring the joy of Christmas to a place where hopelessness abounds?

We will have copies of Christmas carols and the empty manger. Please spread this message far and wide. Most of all, prepare the way of the Lord by joining us in song to glorify the King of kings.

Contact Virginia Zignego at Pro-Life Wisconsin with questions, or (262) 796-1111.

United Way and Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin

People have a right to know what their money is supporting. If organizations' pro-abortion positions were never brought into the open, these things would go on forever. This week, we will focus on United Way's ties to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.

How is United Way linked to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI)?
-    United Way of Greater Milwaukee lists PPWI as a “community health partner”.
-    Brown County United Way directs people to PPWI for emergency contraception, birth control, etc.
-    United Way of Greater Milwaukee lists PPWI on their 2009 pledge form.
-    United Way of Walworth County approved PPWI for a grant in 2004-05.
-    United Way of Dane County refers volunteers to PPWI and has a glowing write-up of PPWI on their Web site.
-    United Way of Wisconsin is promoted as an organizational member on PPWI’s Web site.
-    Fox Cities United Way refers people to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.

Perpetual prayer presence at Madison Planned Parenthood to begin this January

Last week, Vigil for Life of Madison and Pro-Life Wisconsin Dane County announced plans to bring a prayerful presence to the Orin Rd., Madison, Planned Parenthood every day it's open. The Orin Road Planned Parenthood is one of Wisconsin's four stand-alone abortion facilities.

Looking to build on momentum generated by five successful 40 Days for Life campaigns and the derailment of late-term abortion plans at the Madison Surgery Center, the "365 for Life" initiative looks to ensure that every woman who comes to Madison for an abortion has a chance of being offered hope by prayer warriors and sidewalk counselors.

Here’s the plan: Individuals and groups sign up for recurring 2-hour shifts on a weekly or monthly basis. Here's the schedule:
• Monday-Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
• Thursday and Friday: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Sign up and stand up! You can sign-up by contacting Laura Karlen at (608) 445-2064 or Soon, people will be able to sign up online as during 40 Days for Life. Reminder e-mails before the vigil time will be sent. After you sign up, we will equip you with guidelines and resources to bring with you to the sidewalk.

Let's get rolling TODAY! God willing, we will begin holding vigil on Monday, January 3.
