Assembly Democrats Reintroduce Physician-Assisted Suicide Legislation

On the 42nd anniversary of the infamous Roe V. Wade decision legalizing killing at the beginning of life, Assembly Democrats reintroduced state legislation legalizing killing at the end of life. Authored by Representative Sondy Pope (D-Cross Plains) and Senator Fred Risser (D-Madison), LRB-0888/1, also known as “Compassionate Choices,” is now being circulated for co-sponsorship in the Wisconsin Legislature.

LRB-0888/1 would overturn current Wisconsin law specifically prohibiting assisted suicide. Specifically, it would permit an individual to “request and obtain a prescription for medication so as to end his or her life.” It would legalize assisted suicide for people over the age of 18 who have a “terminal disease” and who make an oral and written request to their attending physician for medication to kill themselves.

Last week PLW legislative director Matt Sande sent the following memo to all Wisconsin legislators:
Assisted suicide is decidedly unethical; it offers death as a final solution to elderly, disabled, depressed or terminally ill people, and thwarts the very meaning of care. Killing is not caring, and the Wisconsin Legislature should not permit it.

There is no dignity in death by suicide. Assisted suicide, no matter how compassionate it may seem on the surface, is nothing more than a cruel lie.  To the terminally ill, it tells them that there is no meaning to their life and that when they become a “burden” to themselves and others suicide is the easiest answer for everyone. It also robs them of something integral to the human spirit – hope. Real compassion takes time and commitment. It means standing by someone and bearing their burden.

Victory Fund PAC Endorses Duey Stroebel for State Senate Special Election

The Pro-Life Wisconsin Victory Fund political action committee (PAC) has proudly endorsed former Republican State Representative Duey Stroebel in the 20th Senate District (SD) special election. The 20th SD, located in parts of Washington, Ozaukee, Sheboygan and Calumet counties, includes the cities of Hartford, West Bend, Port Washington and  New Holstein as well as the villages of Campbellsport, Cascade and Kewaskum.

A Wisconsin State Senate special primary election will be held on Tuesday, February 17, in the 20th Senate District. As there are no Democrat candidates running for the seat, the Republican primary election will confirm the next state senator from the 20th District.

For those of you who live in the 20th SD, the February 17th special election is too important to miss. Plan to exercise your right to vote, and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Vote for life, and may God bless Wisconsin!

Cardinal Dolan: Rape exceptions 'preposterous,' discriminatory

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Arbishop of New York City, recently sat down for an interview with Rebecca Kiessling of Save the 1 for his Sirius XM radio show. Kiessling was conceived in rape and regularly challenges pro-life activists and lawmakers to be 100% pro-life, without exception.

In the interview, Cardinal Dolan, one of the leading prelates in the U.S., called exceptions for abortions "preposterous," arguing that the no-exceptions position was "so clear."

PLW Donates Thousands of Dollars to Crisis Pregnancy Centers!

Last September, Pro-Life Wisconsin hosted our first-ever Loving Life 5K to raise funds for Crisis Pregnancy outreach. The run was a huge success, and we raised over $8,000 thanks to many generous donors!

Last week, we had the great joy of hand delivering checks to three wonderful crisis pregnancy centers: Women's Care Center, Women's Support Center, and Life's Connection! These centers are on the front lines, saving lives by helping women in need. We can't wait for this year's Loving Life 5K, coming this September!
