Pro-Life
Wisconsin marks 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade
with prayer across Wisconsin and presence in
Washington, D.C.
While
hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers descend
on Washington, D.C. in protest of Roe v. Wade,
Pro-Life Wisconsin affiliates throughout
Wisconsin had local events occurring to mark
January 22.
In addition to the planned affiliate events,
two buses with over one hundred
representatives of Pro-Life Wisconsin left
Friday, January 20 as part of Pro-Life
Wisconsin's annual pilgrimage to the March
for Life in Washington, D.C. There they will
join an estimated crowd of 350,000 pro-life
activists from across the country in what
has become one of the nation's largest
marches for social reform.
"The impact of Roe v. Wade in Wisconsin
has resulted in more than 500,000 babies
killed through elective abortion," said
Peggy Hamill, state director of Pro-Life
Wisconsin. "Abortions, especially chemical
abortions, are on the rise in our state;
abortion is a tragedy, happening in
communities every day in Wisconsin."

The
same stones as Dachau
Pro-Life Wisconsin's Rock County affiliate has
been instrumental in the closing of the Rockford
abortion mill, and we congratulate them on their
successful pro-life efforts. Proof that pro-life
activism works, PLW Rock County members
regularly sidewalk counseled and prayed outside
this abortion facility for more than twenty
years.
Photo from
a 2000 prayer vigil at the Rockford abortion
mill. L-r: Sister Rosalia Bauer FSPA of PLW
Rock-County, Joe Scheidler of Pro-Life Action
League, Mary Matuska (longtime
leader for Pro-Life Wisconsin) and Peggy Hamill,
state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. They were
celebrating a save as a result of the prayer
vigil.
We have already seen women traveling to
Milwaukee from northern Illinois for abortions,
and we anticipate the traffic to continue.
Affiliated Medical Services in Milwaukee is the
only remaining late-term abortion facility in
Wisconsin.
In an article titled "The Same Stones as Dachau," the
Jan. 16 National
Catholic Register profiled some of
these prayer warriors, longtime PLW activists.
Sister Rosalia
Bauer, a Franciscan Sister of Perpetual
Adoration, prayed in front of what she called
"the abortion mill" every Friday for 13 years.
She said that as a nurse she could never call
that building a clinic. She called it a mill.
A mill that manufactured and profited from
death. She remembers being joined to pray at
the clinic by a woman from Poland. The woman
took one look at Northern Illinois Women’s
Center and told Sister Rosalia that "the stone
on the outside of the building are the same
kind of stone used in Dachau."
The
building at 1400 Broadway in Rockford Illinois
had ironically been built as a schoolhouse
over a century ago but for the past few
decades it's been home to the region's only
abortion clinic. At its height, the NIWC
destroyed 75 human beings a week. It may also
have been one of the most infamous in the
country.
Pro-life
school teacher Kevin Rilott remembers the
first time he came to pray at NIWC many years
ago. A man came out and yelled at him, "Why do
you come here. Only n%&&ers and
prostitutes get abortions. Why are you here?"
"He
thought that would drive me away," said
Rilott. "But I thought if that’s the attitude,
we’re definitely needed here."
Read the rest of the article here;
it is a testament to twenty years of sidewalk
counseling and the power of pro-life activism.
The Rockford
Register Star also has a brief article with
pictures about a prayer vigil held Jan. 17
outside the Rockford abortion mill.

Assembly
Education Committee approves "Strong
Communities... Healthy Kids Act," recommends
passage by full Assembly
Last Wednesday the state Assembly Committee on
Education approved legislation that would
reverse the contraception education/instruction
sexual education mandate of 2009, giving public
school districts the freedom to adopt
abstinence-only human growth and development
curricula. Assembly
Bill 337, authored by Representative
Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac), also
prohibits school-based volunteer health
providers from providing instruction in human
growth and development thus preventing Planned
Parenthood nurses and physicians from teaching
about abortion and contraception in our public
schools.
On a 6-4 party-line vote, the Assembly Education
Committee recommended AB 337 for full passage by
the State Assembly. All Republican committee
members voted in favor of the bill. The Senate
companion bill, SB 237, passed the State Senate
last November on a party-line 17-15 vote. All
Senate Republicans voted in favor of the bill. Click here
for a copy of PLW's legislative memo.
Pro-Life Wisconsin thanks Committee Chairman
Steve Kestell (R-Elkhart Lake) and the
Republican committee members for recommending
this important legislation.
TAKE ACTION!
Please CALL or
EMAIL your state representative NOW and
urge him or her to:
1) support SB 237 / AB 337,
the "Strong Communities... Healthy Kids Act"
and;
2) urge Assembly leadership to
schedule SB 237 / AB 337 for a vote on the
Assembly floor.
Tell your representative that:
- Chastity/abstinence is the only
message that will protect our children's
bodies and preserve their innocence, and
local school districts should be given this
option.
- Sexual development is not properly
under the purview of a school health room
physician or nurse, especially one from
Planned Parenthood.
To find out who your state representative is, click here
for PLW's website and scroll over the Legislative Affairs

Wisconsin Lawmakers? Type in your
street address, city and zip code. The name and
contact information of your state representative
will appear.
Once you know who your state representative is,
go back to the Speak
Up page and use the links listed under
Email Your
Government Officials to send your email
to your state representative. That way PLW will
receive a copy of your email which will enable
us to monitor the activity of our grassroots
advocacy campaigns.
If you prefer to leave a telephone message with
your state representative, call the toll-free

Wisconsin
Personhood Amendment wins award from NARAL
You know you're doing something right when the
pro-aborts come out screaming and kicking.
Personhood Wisconsin and Rep. Andre Jacque are the
proud recipients of NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin's "The Bad of 2011"
Award:
The Bad – Andre Jacque and
"Personhood"
Last
month, Mississippi voters overwhelmingly voted
against a "personhood" measure in their state.
Wisconsin Rep. Andre Jacque clearly didn’t get
the message that this kind of attack is out of
touch with our priorities because he introduced
a similar amendment
right here in Wisconsin. His proposal to
declare a fertilized egg to be a person with
all of the rights outlined in our state
constitution is so far overreaching that it
would ban abortion with no exceptions and may
ban many common forms of birth control.
to sign the personhood petition. Join thousands of
Pro-Life Wisconsinites in supporting legal
personhood for all, born and preborn.

"Choose
Life" license plate legislation to be introduced
Pro-Life Wisconsin is strongly supporting
legislation currently under circulation that
would permit the creation of a "Choose Life"
specialty license plate in Wisconsin. Proceeds
from plate sales would fund the work of crisis
pregnancy centers across the state, including
adoption assistance.
Authored by State
Representative Andre Jacque
(R-Bellevue) and State Senator Glenn Grothman
(R-West Bend), LRB 3486 would require plate
holders to pay a $15 issuance fee and a $25
annual fee that provides funds to Choose Life
Wisconsin. These fees would be in
addition to basic plate registration fees. For
more details, please click here
for a copy of the bill.
