350,000 attend March for Life in Washington, D.C.; 8,000 attend Vigil for Life Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine

From LifeSiteNews:

A sea of youth dominated the massive crowd, one of the largest – if not the largest - in the history of the 37 years of the annual March for Life.

Organizer Nellie Gray told the press that the numbers of marchers this year far exceeded last year, which was estimated at well over 300,000. That sentiment was echoed by many long-time March for Life participants.

While pro-lifers marched by the hundreds of thousands, less than a dozen pro-abortion supporters stood before the Supreme Court with signs. Reading the CNN coverage, however, one would be led to believe the numbers were equal.

But far from missing, young women were in fact the dominant demographic at this 37th March for Life.

The Mass, which precedes the annual March for Life, is a joyous celebration of faith and commitment to life, and a stunning spectacle. Five Cardinals accompanying 40 other bishops and archbishops concelebrated the Mass with 350 priests. Also in the sanctuary were 65 deacons and a whopping 550 seminarians and 60 servers. Well over 8,000 faithful jammed every nook and cranny of the spacious Basilica both in the main church and the crypt below.

THANK YOU to everyone from Wisconsin who attended (at last count, there were more than 15 buses and hundreds more who traveled by car, plane and train from Wisconsin!). Thank you, also, to all those who attended pro-life rallies, Masses and Holy Hours for Life in their hometowns.

Senate Education Committee to vote on sex education bills

This Wednesday, Jan. 27, the Senate Education Committee is scheduled to vote on Assembly Bill (AB) 458 and its companion bill in the Senate, Senate Bill (SB) 324, legislation which revolutionizes Wisconsin’s K-12 instruction in human growth and development. Last November, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed AB 458. The State Senate is likely to vote on AB 458, possibly this Thursday if it passes in committee.

AB 458/SB 324 would effectively prohibit local public school districts from adopting “abstinence-only” or “abstinence-centered” human growth and development programs – a freedom and flexibility they enjoy under current law. This heavy-handed bill ties the hands of local human growth and development advisory committees – a violation of the principle of local control. These advisory committees work very hard to craft curricula that match the goals and values of their local communities. Forcing a one-size-fits-all state curriculum on them would effectively destroy them.

Under the bill, if a school district chooses to adopt a human growth and development program it would be forced to include in its curriculum instruction on the “health benefits, side effects, and proper use of contraceptives and barrier methods.”

Government-funded birth control, whether provided directly or promoted educationally, encourages sexual promiscuity and with it a host of social pathologies including underage pregnancies, chemical and surgical abortions, and sexually transmitted diseases. Hormonal contraceptives are also dangerous in their own right, posing serious and sometimes fatal health risks to women and often causing pre-implantation chemical abortions.

Pro-Life Wisconsin opposes the sexualization of our children! As parents and concerned citizens, we need to fight this assault on our youth. Chastity/abstinence is the only message that will protect their bodies and preserve their innocence.

  • Please CALL or EMAIL your state senator and urge him/her to oppose AB 458/SB 324, legislation that assaults the health and violates the innocence of our children.

Click on the following link for contact information for your state senator (please request a response and be sure to leave your contact information: name, street address, and phone number):

  • If your state senator sits on the Senate Education Committee, please CALL or EMAIL him NOW and urge him to vote NO on AB 458 and SB 324 at this Wednesday’s committee meeting.  The four Democrats on the committee especially need your calls and emails:  Senators John Lehman (D-Racine), Robert Jauch (D-Poplar), Jon Erpenbach (D-Waunakee), and David Hansen (D-Green Bay).

Please pray for the defeat of this legislation.  Thank you for standing up for our children!

Feb. 6 rally will mark one-year anniversary of Madison Surgery Center decision to perform late-term abortions

The Madison Surgery Center has not yet started to perform abortions, and we thank God every day for the additional time we are being given to fight this horrible plan.

When: Saturday, Feb. 6, at 12 p.m.

Where: UW-Madison campus, Library Mall, 700 block of State St.

Join New York pro-life activist Chris Slattery and pro-lifers from all around Wisconsin in saying, “No abortions at the Madison Surgery Center!”

Signs: If you are able, we encourage you to bring pro-life signs, either pre-made or handmade. If you have extras, we invite you to share.

The Wisconsin State Journal also profiled people who pray outside the Madison Surgery Center. Among those profiled are PLW board member Greg Wagner and his wife Ann (click here.)

City of Milwaukee and Planned Parenthood

The city of Milwaukee Health Department Web site directs people to Planned Parenthood for pregnancy testing, emergency contraception and birth control (click here). Milwaukee is consistently in the top ten in the nation for its teen pregnancy rate (click here) and the rate of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among Wisconsin teens is skyrocketing (click here). It is evident the combination of pushing sex and birth control to teens is not working.

For years, the state of Wisconsin has provided taxpayer-funded birth control to teenage girls as young as 15, without their parents’ knowledge or consent (as of 2009, boys as young as 15 are covered as well.)

In 2005, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors – led by Chairman Lee Holloway – announced $20,000 in grant allocations. Planned Parenthood was one of the recipients, receiving a grant for the purpose of a “Chicago museum trip” (click here for the press release). Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin is the state’s leading provider of abortions, both chemical and surgical.
