Legislation banning the sale and use of aborted fetal body parts to be introduced

Pro-Life Wisconsin is strongly supporting legislation currently under circulation that would prohibit the sale and use of human fetal body parts. Fetal body part is defined to mean a cell, tissue, organ, or other part of an unborn child who is aborted by an induced abortion. Authored by Representative Andre Jacque (R-Bellevue) and Senator Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend), the legislation bans persons from knowingly and for valuable consideration acquiring, receiving, or transferring a fetal body part. It also bans persons from knowingly providing, receiving, or using for experimentation a fetal body part.

There is documented evidence of the University of Wisconsin (UW)-Madison conducting research on human fetal brain and pancreatic tissue. A 2000 fetal brain cell study conducted by Su-Chun Zhang of the UW-Madison Department of Medical Sciences used immature neural cells from fetal human brain tissue of 15-20 gestation weeks “after elective termination of intrauterine pregnancies” to study neurological disorders including multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease. The study acknowledged Dr. Dennis Christenson, a former Madison abortionist, for his “assistance in this project.” Click here for PLW's legislative memo detailing the UW’s grisly research on human fetal body parts.

An article in Sunday’s Wisconsin State Journal highlights the fetal body parts legislation and quotes the UW Madison and UW Health, “Limiting or barring access to legally and ethically obtained research materials would compromise the ability of scientists to find new drugs and therapies to treat serious diseases.” Not only does the UW not deny their use of human fetal body parts for research, they provide justification for doing so! Click here for the full Wisconsin State Journal story.

Federal law prohibits the interstate trafficking of human fetal body parts.  Wisconsin’s intrastate commercial activity must have a similar prohibition so that we can guarantee the highest ethical standards of academic research and medical care in our state.

Planned Parenthood: "Jesus would not have written Walker's budget"

On Friday, July 1, the George Soros-funded liberal group Citizen Action of Wisconsin released its weekly “Battleground Wisconsin” podcast  and Tanya Atkinson, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Wisconsin, was one of the guest hosts. The podcast discussed the state budget, recently signed into law by Gov. Scott Walker.

Discussing the budget, Atkinson said:
I have to ask myself, what would Jesus do? I’m pretty sure Jesus would not cut off funds for poor women and children…

The Sunday signing was pretty ironic to me, because if you’re Christian and you know what Jesus would have done, Jesus would not have written that kind of a budget.

Jesus would not be funding Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, the state’s largest abortion chain. Nor would He want PPWI to be a health care provider for children. And isn’t it ironic that this is the same organization that advocates for the separation of church and state and mocks those who have faith? And uses pro-abortion Catholics for political gain?

The budget bill signed by Walker: 1) redirects $1 million in state and federal family planning funds away from Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, the state’s largest abortion provider, 2) applies current law abortion funding restrictions to the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (UWHC) Authority, and 3) removes boys/men aged 15-44 from the BadgerCare Family Planning Program and requires parental notification for minor girls in the program. Click here for more detail on these budget provisions.

Pro-Life Wisconsin is grateful to Governor Walker for signing into a law a life-affirming budget bill. This budget respects the consciences of Wisconsin taxpayers who oppose the use of public funds to directly or indirectly subsidize abortion. The provisions to cut state and federal grant money to Wisconsin’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood; stop state payments to UW medical residents for abortion training; block UW plans to establish a late-term abortion facility; and make common sense changes to the BadgerCare Family Planning program are all fiscally and morally responsible steps that further a culture of life in the great state of Wisconsin.

Pro-Life Wisconsin's legislative team worked tirelessly to guarantee that these life-saving provisions were included in the budget. Please help support this work with a generous contribution today. Click here to donate.

Baby girls' sex-change operations

The fate of girls around the world (some have called it a war on girls) has been making the news lately -- pro-life news, Catholic media, main stream, etc.

The Wall Street Journal review of the book "Unnatural Selection" is perhaps one of the best:
There have been so many sex-selective abortions in the past three decades that 163 million girls, who by biological averages should have been born, are missing from the world.

Ross Douthat had an op-ed in the June 27 New York Times on the same topic. Also worth a read.

A Daily Mail article from June 28 detailed how girls as young as one are having sex-change operations forced upon them by parents desperate for a son:
Wealthy parents from Delhi and Mumbai are reportedly flocking to Indore, a city in the centre of India, for the relatively low cost £2,000 treatment to surgically 'correct' their daughters.

Parents have allegedly pressed for the surgeries despite being told by doctors that the 'converted' male would be infertile.

Seven genitoplasty experts in Indore boasted each of them had turned 200 to 300 girls into 'boys' so far, with only one being older than 14, the legal age of consent to such an operation.

It is quite the twist of fate how modern pro-abortion feminism exported abortion to developing countries such as India, and now women are being exterminated.

Historic Polish bill to ban all abortion clears first vote 254-151

From LifeSiteNews:

A massive grassroots campaign in Poland to implement a total ban on abortion witnessed an important victory Friday as the lower house of the Polish parliament fought off a first round of voting intended to scrap the historic bill.

Sejm lawmakers voted 254-151 against a motion by the pro-abortion communist Democratic Left Alliance to reject the measure. In a second vote, the legislation was sent back to committee for further consideration, forcing a slower legislative path.

LifeSiteNews.com learned earlier this week that the ban was thrust forward by strong pro-life sentiment in the former Communist country, where sponsors, requiring 100,000 signatures within three months to bring the bill forward, obtained 600,000 in two weeks.

Technically, abortions in Poland currently may only be obtained when the child is diagnosed with a serious condition, the mother diagnosed with a health problem, or where the pregnancy resulted from “illegal activity.” But local leaders say that the exceptions - whereby the procedure is still illegal but “not punishable” - are routinely abused by abortionists.

In a speech before Parliament on Thursday, Mariusz Dzierzawski of the Polish pro-life PRO Foundation described abortion as the country’s heritage from communist times, when “children were killed in their mothers’ wombs on a mass scale in public hospitals and private offices.”

“What differentiates good states from evil states? The way in which they treat the human person,” said Dzierzawski. “A good state is one where every person is respected, and institutions serve good ends.

“Totalitarian states ignore the dignity of the person. ... Every genocide begins with denying the humanity of the victims.”

The current effort would strike down all three exceptions to the legal penalty. It requires two more votes in the lower chamber before it moves to the Senate.

Live Action catches Planned Parenthood on tape, lying about Indiana healthcare

From Live Action:

Undercover phone calls released on June 29 show Planned Parenthood of Indiana clinics admitting that they are not the only source of women’s health care for women on Medicaid. Planned Parenthood and its supporters have recently argued in support of restoring their Medicaid funding in Indiana that poor women will lose access to vital health care services if they cannot go to Planned Parenthood. Live Action, the group that recorded the calls, says its footage shows the reality is quite the opposite.

“Indiana has become Ground Zero in the national battle to defund Planned Parenthood, the biggest abortion business in America,” states Live Action President Lila Rose. “As more and more states, most recently Wisconsin and Texas, continue to defund the abortion giant of millions of dollars, Planned Parenthood wants us to believe they are the only game in town when it comes to providing care for Medicaid patients. In reality, their own staff admit that they aren’t the only option for women in need.”

In an official press release, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards claimed that Indiana’s defunding of Planned Parenthood would “take away health care from thousands of women in Indiana.” Last week, Live Action’s undercover investigators called 16 of the 28 Indiana Planned Parenthood clinics posing as women on Medicaid concerned about where they could receive services if Planned Parenthood’s funding was not restored.

Planned Parenthood staffers at all 16 locations admitted that Medicaid women would still have access to medical care after the defunding. Staffers suggested local health clinics or state-assigned primary care physicians for Medicaid patients: “Your primary care doctor should be able to do [a Well Woman exam,] I mean, that’s what they’re there for,” said a Planned Parenthood in Michigan City, while the Merrillville Planned Parenthood said of a local community health center, “They have the same services we have.”
