Quebec National Assembly Passes Euthanasia Bill

By a vote of 94-22, the Quebec National Assembly on Thursday passed Bill 52, legislation granting doctors the right to lethally inject patients undergoing physical or psychological suffering.

Quebec becomes the first Canadian province to legalize euthanasia, dubbing it “medical aid in dying.” As reported by, the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition (EPC) is petitioning the federal government to bring an injunction against the bill and the high court to strike it down as unconstitutional.

According to EPC executive director Alex Schadenberg, "…Bill 52 gives Québec physicians the right to intentionally and directly cause the death of persons by lethal injection. This represents an act of homicide and not an act of ‘end of life care’…Québeckers should not trust their life to the provisions in Bill 52, which are imprecise, open to abuse and based on the Belgian euthanasia law.”
