Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin Closes Fond du Lac Birth Control Center

On Thursday Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) announced the closure of its Fond du Lac birth control center, citing lack of public funding as the impetus for the decision. Specifically, PPWI says the closure is the direct result of the Wisconsin Legislature eliminating $1 million in state funding for the group. The Fond du Lac closure follows the closure of PPWI birth control centers in Beaver Dam, Johnson Creek, Chippewa Falls and Shawano last year.
Wisconsin taxpayers who conscientiously oppose the use of public funds to directly or indirectly subsidize abortion applauded the 2011 state biennial budget bill partially defunding Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, the state’s largest abortion provider.  Last year they welcomed Planned Parenthood’s decision to close four of its state funded birth control centers as a direct result of the budget cuts, centers that refer for surgical abortion and dispense abortifacient contraceptives – often to minor children without parental notification. And today they welcome the closure of the Fond du Lac birth control center for the same reasons.
Pro-Life Wisconsin will continue its hard work to totally defund Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin of all public funds.

“We praise God for the faithful witness of our Fond du Lac County affiliate, under the leadership of Anne Fontecchio, who prayed and gave public witness week after week,” said Peggy Hamill, State Director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. “I was blessed to join them at their vigil on several occasions. We will continue to work to not only expose Planned Parenthood but to also defund and counter their deplorable agenda.”

EWTN Denied Conscience Protections, Supreme Court to Rule on HHS Mandate this Week

On Tuesday, June 17, a federal district court judged ruled that EWTN, the nation's largest Catholic media company, must comply with the HHS contraceptive mandate.

The controversial ruling comes after almost all other cases involving the HHS mandate have protected the conscience rights of business owners. Michael Warsaw, Chairman and CEO of EWTN, made the following comments.
The opinion issued is clearly inconsistent with the decisions reached in nearly all of the cases decided to date. The fact that the court has dismissed the serious issues of conscience and religious freedom that EWTN has raised is very troubling.”

As an organization that was founded to uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church, we do not believe that contraception, abortion-inducing drugs and voluntary sterilization should be defined as health care,” he added. “We simply cannot facilitate these immoral practices.

A Tribute to a Slain Priest

Fr. Kenneth Walker, FSSP, made media headlines by being killed during a burglary gone wrong, but he is remembered by those who know him best as a faithful priest who was above all concerned for the salvation of souls and threats to the dignity of human life.

Judie Brown of American Life League has the following commentary on this wonderful priest.
Both of these Catholic priests were well-known in their community for their stalwart defense of preborn children, their involvement with ministry and prayer—including 40 Days for Life events in their city—and for speaking eloquently and often about respect for the dignity of the human person.
