State Assembly to vote on three pro-life bills tomorrow

The Wisconsin State Assembly has scheduled three pro-life bills for floor votes on Tuesday, March 13.  Each of these bills has already passed the State Senate.  The bills are as follows:

1) Senate Bill 237 / Assembly Bill 337: repealing the contraception education/instruction sexual education mandate

SB 237 / AB 337, authored by Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) and Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond du Lac) respectively, would reverse the contraception education/instruction sexual education mandate of 2009, giving public school districts the freedom to adopt abstinence-only human growth and development curricula. Known as the Strong Communities…Healthy Kids Act, the legislation also prohibits school-based volunteer health providers from providing instruction in human growth and development thus preventing Planned Parenthood nurses and physicians from teaching about abortion and contraception in our public schools.

2) Senate Bill 92 / Assembly Bill 154: opting out of abortion coverage in Wisconsin's state health insurance "exchange"

SB 92 / AB 154, authored by Senator Rich Zipperer (R-Pewaukee) and Representative Robin Vos (R-Burlington) respectively, would prohibit any plan in Wisconsin’s prospective health insurance exchange from covering abortion.  Obamacare allows health insurance plans offering abortion coverage to participate in a state's insurance “exchange” and to receive federal subsidies unless the state legislature proactively opts-out of offering such plans. Although the state exchanges do not go into effect until 2014, several states have already enacted laws opting-out of abortion coverage. In poll after poll, Americans overwhelmingly say they oppose the inclusion of taxpayer-funded abortion in health care reform legislation.

3) Senate bill 306 / Assembly Bill 371:  prohibiting the use of videoconferencing to prescribe and dispense abortion-causing drugs

SB 306 / AB 371, authored by Senator Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) and Representative Michelle Litjens (R-Oshkosh) respectively, would prohibit the use of videoconferencing to prescribe and automatically dispense abortion-causing drugs such as mifepristone, also known as RU-486. The legislation effectively prohibits so-called web cam abortions by requiring the prescribing physician to perform a physical exam of the woman and to be physically present in the room when the abortion-inducing drug is given to the woman. The bill also requires the woman to return to the abortion facility for a follow-up visit 12 to 18 days after the use of an abortion-inducing drug to confirm the termination of the pregnancy and evaluate the woman's medical condition.

TAKE ACTION!

Please CALL or EMAIL your state representative NOW and urge him or her to:

1) Vote for SB 237 / AB 337
Tell your representative that chastity/abstinence is the only message that will protect our children's bodies and preserve their innocence, and local school districts should be given this option.

2) Vote for SB 92 / AB 154
Tell your representative that government must not force us to participate in the killing of our preborn brothers and sisters with our federal tax dollars.

3) Vote for SB 306 / AB 371
Tell your representative to protect women from the reckless use of mifepristone (RU-486), a highly toxic abortion drug hazardous to women’s health.

Rallies for Religious Freedom to be held in Madison and Milwaukee

On Friday, March 23 at noon, Vigil for Life and Pro-Life Wisconsin will join more than 100 cities nationwide in protesting the recent Department of Health and Human Services decision mandating that all commercial insurance plans cover contraception -- including abortifacient birth control, and sterilizations.

We'll meet at noon on the sidewalk in Madison at the U.S. District Courthouse (120 N. Henry Street) and in Milwaukee at the Downtown Federal Building (310 West Wisconsin Ave.). The vigils last until 1 p.m. If you can't make it for the entire hour, come as long as you're available.

Some signs will be available, and prayer for our nation is encouraged!

Contact Steve at (608) 445-2063 or steve@prolifewisconsin.org with questions on the Madison rally or call Peggy (262) 796-1111 ext.11 for information on the Milwaukee rally.

What is the HHS Mandate?

In January, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a mandate requiring all employer health plans to include free contraceptives, sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs, regardless of any moral or religious objections. The HHS Mandate is an unprecedented assault on religious freedom and must be opposed!

Training conference saves lives

Pro-Life Wisconsin recently held a Pro-Life Activism Training Camp in Madison. At the training, we had a number of speakers touch on a variety of topics. One of the speakers conducted a sidewalk counseling training.

The Madison Catholic Herald published an article about the event, excerpt, below.

MADISON – Perhaps the highlight of the day was the tearful introduction of Mareza and her baby, Joseph.

Virginia Zignego, communications/outreach director of Pro-Life Wisconsin, introduced the mother and her baby. Both Zignego and Mareza were crying, but they were tears of joy.

Considered an abortion
It was one year ago that the pregnant Mareza walked towards a Milwaukee abortion clinic. She saw Dan, a sidewalk counselor. “He handed me a pamphlet called Watch Me Grow,” recalled Mareza.

“He said, ‘God bless all three of you.’ I left,” said Mareza, who obviously did not have an abortion.

Two months later, she told Dan, “You saved my son.” The sidewalk counselor ended up being a godfather to Joseph.

Mareza told her story to over 170 persons attending the Crisis Pregnancy Outreach and Sidewalk Counselor Training Conference held at the Bishop O’Connor Center in Madison on February 25.

The conference was co-sponsored by Pro-Life Wisconsin, Vigil for Life, the Diocese of Madison, and the Wisconsin State Council of the Knights of Columbus.

Saving lives
Mareza and her son epitomized the purpose of the conference: to save lives.

Mareza told those attending the conference, “Thank you to each and every one of you. It means you care. I am in debt to Dan forever. Thank you for standing out there.”

For those considering joining the ranks of sidewalk counselors, JT Eschbach from Chicago led a workshop on sidewalk counselor training. He has done it himself for over eight years.

Read the rest of the article here.

Mary Uhler, editor of the Madison Catholic Herald, wrote an editorial about a talk given by Jerry Schmutte at the conference. Jerry talked about Planned Parenthood and society's decline. Read that here.

A huge thanks to all of our speakers, attendees and event co-sponsors! We couldn't have done it without any of you.

To book any of our speakers, call our office at (262) 796-1111. Click here to see the list of speakers and topics.
