Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin opposes state resolution commending pregnancy care centers

As surely as the world turns, pro-abortion forces oppose any and all efforts to bring true choice into the abortion debate.

In a legislative memo obtained by Pro-Life Wisconsin, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin outlines their opposition to an Assembly Joint Resolution, authored by Rep. Andre Jacque (R- Bellevue) and Sen. Dan Kapanke (R- La Crosse), “honoring pregnancy care centers and proclaiming October 2011 as Pregnancy Care Month.” Read the PPAWI’s memo here [PDF]. Read the text of the AJR here [PDF].

Because, after all, as NARAL points out, abortion is safer than childbirth! So safe, facilities that perform abortions in Wisconsin aren’t subject to health department inspections.

Treat miscarried babies with the dignity they deserve

PLW's Steve Karlen had a guest column in the April 28 Madison
Catholic Herald, below.

Treat miscarried babies with the dignity they deserve
As soon as I heard my wife burst out the bathroom door that sunny spring day, I knew she was pregnant. I hadn’t yet opened my eyes but I didn’t need to. Her footsteps told me everything.

My wife didn’t have any particular reason to believe she was pregnant. But after a couple years of praying for a second child, I’d grown accustomed to Laura taking random pregnancy tests — hoping against hope that somehow that second pink line would appear. This time it did.

Joyful days
The days ahead were as joyful as any we’d experienced in our life together. We beamed when friends who knew of our struggle with secondary infertility congratulated us and we devoured all the fetal development materials we could find, eager to mark every last milestone in our baby’s nascent life.

Celebrating our first child’s birthday later that week, we couldn’t have been happier. Among the presents Peter opened was the Dr. Seuss movie, Horton Hears a Who. Reflecting on the film’s signature quote, “A person’s a person no matter how small,” it was clear that evening that our family of three had become a family of four.

Special Assembly elections tomorrow - Don't forget to vote

Special general elections will be held tomorrow May 3 for three vacant state Assembly seats left by Republicans joining the Walker Administration: former Rep. Mike Huebsch of the 94th Assembly District left to serve as Secretary of the Department of Administration (DOA); former Rep. Mark Gottlieb of the 60th Assembly District left to serve as the Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOT); and former Rep. Scott Gunderson of the 83rd Assembly District left to serve as Executive Assistant of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The Pro-Life Wisconsin Victory Fund political action committee (PAC) has proudly endorsed the following candidates in tomorrow’s special general elections:

60th Assembly District (portions of Ozaukee and Washington counties):
•    Duey Stroebel

83rd Assembly District (portions of Waukesha, Walworth, and Racine counties):
•    Dave Craig

94th Assembly District (portions of Monroe and La Crosse counties):
•    John Lautz

For those of you who live in the 60th, 83rd and 94th Assembly Districts, tomorrow’s special elections are too important to miss. Plan to exercise your right to vote tomorrow, May 3, and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Vote for life, and may God bless Wisconsin!

Chinese president: One-child policy stays

From LifeSiteNews:

While new census shows that China is experiencing a dramatic drop in population growth and an increasingly aging population, the country’s president has insisted that its brutal population control policies will still remain in force.

China’s National Bureau of Statistics released the results of the country’s first census in a decade on Thursday, revealing that its population growth was cut to almost half the pace of the previous decade.  In the last ten years, the population grew to 1.34 billion, a rise of 5.8 percent.

Some experts are saying the figures could increase pressure on the government to relax its tight thirty-year-old population control policies, which in many cases have been enforced through forced abortion and sterilization, imprisonment, and fines many times greater than a family’s annual income.

But in advance of the data’s release, President Hu Jintao said Wednesday the country would “uphold and perfect reproductive policies [to] earnestly stabilize a low birth rate,” according to Xinhua news agency.

Indiana gov. will sign bill defunding Planned Parenthood

From LifeSiteNews:

Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels has put an end to speculation about whether or not he would sign a bill that would make Indiana the first state to defund the abortion giant Planned Parenthood.

Pro-lifers were on pins and needles over the bill, which passed the House earlier this week, and the Senate on the 20th, due to past controversial remarks from Daniels calling for a “truce” on social issues such as abortion, in order to focus on other issues, like the economy.

The country has also been watching to see Daniels’ decision, due to the fact that he is a possible contender for the 2012 GOP ticket.

“I will sign HEA 1210 when it reaches my desk a week or so from now. I supported this bill from the outset, and the recent addition of language guarding against the spending of tax dollars to support abortions creates no reason to alter my position,” said Daniels today.

“The principle involved commands the support of an overwhelming majority of Hoosiers, as reflected in greater than 2:1 bipartisan votes in both legislative chambers.”

The legislation bars the state from entering into contracts with abortion providers aside from hospitals, and includes a ban on abortion past 20 weeks gestation, but with an exception for the health of the mother.
