Pro-life inserts finally in Marquette University official newspaper

Marquette University’s official newspaper, The Marquette Tribune, is running the pro-life insert Trapped… in the May 1 edition.

Pro-Life Wisconsin has been recently working with Human Life Alliance to place educational inserts about abortion in college newspapers. The Marquette Tribune originally expressed reservations about accepting the insert as printed, raising questions about the description of abortion methods, a photo depicting an in utero corrective procedure and an explanation of the birth control/abortion connection.

“It is absolutely crucial to show Marquette students the horror of abortion. We are delighted the insert is in the May 1 edition of The Marquette Tribune,” said Virginia Zignego, communications director for Pro-Life Wisconsin. “I would like to thank everyone who contacted Marquette University to express their confusion with the editors’ inclination not to accept the insert as printed.”

“While we are grateful all the details were finally worked out and the insert was accepted as printed, it needs to be known this was not an easy task. We faced numerous roadblocks that were unnecessary and uncalled for... especially from a Catholic university,” said Jillian Roemer, distribution coordinator for Human Life Alliance.

The inserts recently ran in UW-Madison’s Daily Cardinal newspaper as well.

The 12-page inserts, called Trapped…, are a compelling pro-life resource designed to educate people about abortion. The solid pro-life content challenges individuals to rethink their ideas about abortion, premarital sex and the humanity of the unborn child.

Serving all and sacrificing none

From LifeSiteNews.com:

The Bishops of Wisconsin released a pastoral letter April 29 as part of a diocesan campaign to educate citizens regarding stem cell research and promote ethical medical research.

In "Serving All and Sacrificing None," Bishops Peter Christensen, Timothy Dolan, Jerome Listecki, and Robert Morlino emphasize the scientifically-demonstrated humanity of the embryo as the basis for opposing embryonic stem cell research.

"It is scientists who have demonstrated that the single cell, or zygote that results from fertilization, contains the complete genetic information necessary for the development of a unique human being. It is scientists who have shown us that human development is a continuous, uninterrupted process, from zygote, embryo, fetus, infant, child, to adult."

… The Wisconsin Catholic Conference (WCC), the public policy arm of the Bishops, released a question-and-answer booklet and a 14-minute DVD related to the letter as part of an educational campaign it hopes will spark discussion and action across the diocese.

Pastors accuse Planned Parenthood of genocide on blacks

American Life League has been working with Students for Life of America as well as other national pro-life groups to defund Planned Parenthood. On April 24, pro-lifers protested outside of a PP facility in Washington D.C. In conjunction with this activity, African-American leaders held a press conference that has received national attention.

From FoxNews.com:

WASHINGTON —  The Planned Parenthood Federation of America has perpetuated a “genocide on the black community,” says a group of African-American pastors who claimed Thursday the birth control and abortion provider has had a racist agenda since its beginnings in 1921.

Holding a brief vigil and press conference in front of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Washington, D.C., the group of pastors and activists said they were incensed by the results of recent “undercover” inquiries into several Planned Parenthood clinics across the country.

“Every day … over 1,500 black babies are murdered inside the black woman’s womb,” said Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, of Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND). “This is a race issue.”

The pastors urged Congress to initiate an audit of the organization and have written letters demanding that money for Planned Parenthood be eliminated from federal Title X funding, of which the group got $65 million for fiscal year 2007, according to pro-life Concerned Women of America. In total, Planned Parenthood received $300 million in government contracts and grants in the current fiscal year.
