Pope Francis Endorses Personhood, Encourages Pro-Lifers

Pope Francis endorsed personhood this past Sunday during his Regina Caeli address, encouraging Catholics to support the "One of Us" campaign in Europe, which seeks to grant legal personhood to humans from the moment of conception.

The Pope also brought attention to an upcoming commemoration of Pope John Paul II's famous encyclical, Evangelium Vitae, which articulates the Gospel of Life in unequivocal terms.

I greet the participants in the "March for Life" which took place in Rome this morning and invite you to keep the attention of everyone on the important issue of respect for human life from the moment of conception. In this regard, I am pleased to recall the signature-collection drive currently underway in many Italian parishes, in order to support the European “One of Us” initiative to ensure legal protection to the embryo, protecting every human being from the first moment of existence.

Obama Administration mocks motherhood on Mother's Day

This past weekend, the Obama administration made a mockery of motherhood, and outright celebrated its destruction.

First, the White House Twitter account tweeted a message touting free birth control and other "preventative care," ending with a "Happy Mother's Day" message. This isn't celebrating motherhood, it is celebrating the prevention of motherhood. "Preventative care," if you haven't figured it out, is a happy-sounding euphemism for preventing children at all costs, even if it means killing them.

And if this tweet weren't bad enough, President Obama decided to invite America's number one baby-killing business to the White House for his Mother's Day event. That's right, he invited Planned Parenthood to celebrate motherhood, when it is a well known fact that approximately 92% of pregnant women who enter a Planned Parenthood leave with an abortion

This is an outright mockery of motherhood. Mother's were designed to nurture and care for their children, not kill them in the womb. And yet our President celebrates Mother's Day by promoting the ideology that children are a burden to be prevented. He celebrates Mother's Day by encouraging mothers to turn on their children with violence and kill them if it suits their lifestyle.

While none of this is surprising (we have long known our President celebrates abortion), it is a tragic testament to just how badly motherhood has been degraded in our country. In response, let's truly celebrate mother's who choose the gift of life, Mother's Day and every day!

Gender matters, and so do Mothers!

This past Sunday, America celebrated Mother's Day. But as we bought flowers and gave cards to our mother's, it is worth asking how much Americans really value motherhood. The answer, sadly, is not very much. Just about every other choice a woman makes is celebrated. Becoming a doctor, an engineer, a designer, a CEO---but being a mother, especially a full-time mother, is looked at as a waste of time and potential.

This weekend, National Catholic Register published a thoughtful piece examining this trend.

"Frequently, both women and men are valued for their career accomplishments rather than their relationships as spouses and parents. The outsourcing of conception, pregnancy and child rearing also make it more difficult to understand the irreplaceable contributions of a mother or father. When more than 40% of all births are to single mothers, fathers seem to be anything but essential. Divorce, all too commonplace, makes both mothers and fathers seem interchangeable and certainly not unique. All of this has paved the way for same-sex families in which two mothers or two fathers substitute for the natural complementarity of one mother and one father."
