Iowa legislators introduce personhood amendment

The personhood movement continues to advance, with state legislators in Iowa filing a personhood amendment in the State Senate.

Senate Joint Resolution 10 was filed April 25, and if it passes the state House and Senate, the amendment will go directly to Iowans for ratification through a popular vote.

There's a long battle ahead, but it's exciting to see more and more states realizing that personhood is the winning strategy---the way to end abortion once and for all! Let's pray for the legislators in Iowa, Wisconsin, and all the other states considering personhood initiatives, that they would be courageous in defending the unborn.

We won't quit until the personhood and dignity of every human being, no matter how small, is recognized and protected in our laws!

Bill defines life at conception in wrongful death actions

State Representative Andre Jacque (R-Green Bay) has introduced legislation that defines life at conception in wrongful death actions involving deceased minor children. Current law permits a deceased minor’s relative or other representative to make a wrongful death claim in order to recover damages from a person who, by his or her act or omission, causes the death of the minor child. Current law does not clearly define deceased minor child and courts have interpreted the statute to include only those preborn children who are “viable,” or who had reached the stage of “viability.”
Of course parents grieve the loss of a child at any stage of that child’s development before or after birth. Accordingly, Assembly Bill (AB) 160 defines “deceased minor" to include an unborn child who has died, and defines “unborn child" as a human being from the time of fertilization to the time of live birth for the purposes of a wrongful death claim.
We thank Representative Jacque for introducing this compassionate and common sense bill that affirms the rights of parents and their deceased minor children in redressing wrongful actions. Assembly Bill 160 has been referred to the Assembly Committee on Health. Please click here to read the bill.
