Pro-Life Wisconsin deeply gratified by election results

Pro-Life Wisconsin is deeply gratified by Election Day victories of total protection pro-life candidates across Wisconsin. New pro-life majorities in the state Senate and state Assembly and a pro-life governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general will help build a culture of life in Wisconsin.

“Scott Walker, Rebecca Kleefisch and J.B. Van Hollen are leaders of deep principle who will govern with integrity,” said PLW State Director Peggy Hamill. “What a blessing it is for all Wisconsinites – from our preborn children to our frail elderly – to have the leading constitutional officers of our state committed to the no exceptions, pro-life philosophy.”

Republicans gained 14 seats in the state Assembly and 4 seats in the state Senate to secure pro-life majorities in both houses. The makeup of the Assembly this January will include 60 Republicans, 38 Democrats and one independent (Bob Ziegelbauer of Manitowoc) – the largest shift in that chamber since the 1970 election. The makeup of the Senate will include 19 Republicans and 14 Democrats. Not since the 1990s when Tommy Thompson was governor will Wisconsin have an all-Republican statehouse.

In the Assembly, 35 of the 51 candidates endorsed by the PLW Victory Fund PAC were elected, and in the Senate five of the eight endorsed candidates were elected (results include both primary and general elections).

“In the coming legislative session, we will be working to make sure that our success in this election translates into greater legal protection for these innocent lives,” said Matt Sande, PLW Director of Legislation.

Pope Benedict XVI calls for Nov. 27 Vigil for the Unborn

Pope Benedict XVI has made an “unprecedented request” to Catholics by asking that Catholic Bishops throughout the world, and all parishes and religious communities observe a “Vigil for All Nascent Human Life” on Saturday, November 27, the vigil of the first Sunday of Advent. Pope Benedict XVI will observe the vigil at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and has asked all Diocesan Bishops and the faithful to join him.

The following vigils will be held in the Wisconsin area. We urge everyone to attend if at all possible:
Archdiocese of Milwaukee: Archbishop Listecki will preside at Evening Prayer, Rosary and Benediction on Saturday, November 27, at 5 p.m. hosted by St. Anthony Church, Ninth & Mitchell, Milwaukee. Sacred music will be led by Lee Erickson, choir master St. Anthony Congregation and Director of the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus.  For more information and a flyer, click here.
Diocese of Madison: With joyful hope, Bishop Robert Morlino invites the faithful of the Diocese of Madison to observe this Vigil with him, in communion with the Holy Father, at St. Patrick’s Church of the Cathedral Parish on November 27, at 7 p.m., so we may together join our fasting and prayers with those around the world, "as a cry of all Humanity, rising up to God the Father, Giver of all good things, in order that every human life be respected, protected and loved."

We will include information from the other three Wisconsin dioceses when we receive them.

Male columnist: Stock up on the morning after pill in light of Tuesday's election

After Tuesday’s pro-life, pro-family election victories across the state and the country, a certain amount of pro-abortion backlash is to be expected.

And now for one of the most ridiculous, ill-formed pieces of backlash. [PLW note: The following articles linked to may be considered by some to be graphic, so bear that in mind.]

Ryan Adserias is one of the writers for “The Dirty Bird,” a weekly sex column published by The Daily Cardinal, UW-Madison’s liberal student newspaper. Adserias, according to The Daily Cardinal’s bio, is “a graduate student in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis” at UW-Madison. Adserias is also a program coordinator for Sex Out Loud, a UW-Madison-funded student group that promotes “healthy sexuality through sex positive education and activism.”

With all those credentials, one would think Adserias would be respectful of women, since he did receive a bachelor’s degree from UW-Madison in women’s studies. Or be able to compose a column without the use of the “f” word. Or act like he’s had sensitivity training with all those Sex Out Loud folks.

In Friday’s “Dirty Bird” column, Adserias refers to a pregnancy as a “sexually-transmitted uterine parasite called a fetus.” Apparently “reproductive rights” don’t actually include reproducing.

Lastly, Adserias advises women (or men?) to “stock up on Plan B.” He apparently didn’t read the usage instructions for Plan B, the most commonly used form of emergency contraception, which state: “Plan B One-Step™ should not be used as regular birth control… Plan B One-Step™ should only be used in emergencies.”

Where is NARAL’s feminist outcry over Adserias’ overwhelming chauvinism?
