Pro-Life Wisconsinites Gather to Reflect on Humanae Vitae

On Saturday, October 18, Pro-Life Wisconsinites from the northern half of the state gathered in Phillips for a full day of reflection on God’s plan for love, marriage, and procreation. This educational conference, planned and sponsored in part by Pro-Life Wisconsin’s Price County affiliate, fell on the weekend of the beatification of Pope Paul VI, the author of  the prophetic encyclical, Humanae Vitae.

Conference presenters included Jeff Arrowood on Theology of The Body, Fr.Gerald Hagen on Humanae Vitae, and Dr. Louise Smyth (St. Michael Fertility Center) on the effects of the Pill on the body, spirituality and our culture. Compelling personal testimonies to the beauty and  freedom of Natural Family Planning as expressed in Humanae Vitae were given by Jerry and Ann Geisler and Patrick and Jeanette Gierl.

Paraphrasing Humane Vitae’s warning regarding artificial birth control, Fr. Gerald Hagen (Pastor, St. Therese Phillips, St. Paul Catawba and St. John Prentice) stated, ”…grave consequences will follow when we fail to follow what is inherent of our human nature ordained by God for our good.” Fr. Hagen lovingly proclaimed that, “true freedom and joy is found in obedience to the will of God.”
