This Saturday: Sidewalk counseling training in Milwaukee

Pro-Life Wisconsin is sponsoring a free sidewalk counselor training session on Saturday, October 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. St. Rita’s/Three Holy Women Parish will be hosting the event. The church is at 1601 N. Cass St., Milwaukee. Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Sidewalk counseling is exactly what the name implies — standing on the sidewalk outside an abortion clinic, counseling women and couples on their way inside. It is a last attempt to turn their hearts away from abortion and offer real help. Veteran sidewalk counselor JT Eschbach from the Pro-Life Action League will be conducting this free seminar that is open to people of all ages who are interested in knowing how to be an effective witness for Christ and life at an abortion clinic. This training is also very helpful for anyone interested in learning how to talk to people about abortion and guide them to real help.

To attend, email Pro-Life Wisconsin at office@prolifewisconsin.org or call (262) 796-1111. You MUST pre-register in order to attend.

Sign up today for Pro-Life Wisconsin's Annual Auction Dinner!

On Saturday, October 16, Pro-Life Wisconsinites from across the state will gather for PLW’s Annual Auction Dinner. The event will be held at the Marriott West in Waukesha.

Archbishop Jerome Listecki will give the opening invocation, and Matt Bowman, legal counsel for the Alliance Defense Fund, will give the keynote speech. Bowman will be discussing what Pro-Life Wisconsin and the Alliance Defense Fund have done together in the past 18 months – from the Madison Surgery Center victory, to the revelation that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had performed a terrorism assessment of Wisconsin pro-lifers, to the open records request revealing that abortionist Caryn Dutton was fleeing to Harvard from UW-Madison, and much more. Join us in celebrating 18 years of advocating for total protection and personhood in Wisconsin!

Seats are $50 per person, $475 per table of 10. Advance reservations are required.

Chemical and surgical abortions increased in Wisconsin in 2009, state report shows

The state of Wisconsin Department of Health Services released its annual report on induced abortions in Wisconsin. The total number of abortions in Wisconsin in 2009 was 8,542, up from 8,229 in 2008.

This is the first increase in the number of abortions since 2003.

Statistics show the use of RU-486 has risen while surgical abortions have declined. Both chemical and surgical abortions are reported to the state of Wisconsin and are covered by the statistics. The use of the drug regimen RU-486 results in a post-implantation chemical abortion.

Of the 8,542 reported abortions in 2009, 72 percent were surgical, 27 percent were chemically induced, and 0.6 percent were surgical procedures following a failed or incomplete chemically induced termination of pregnancy. In 2008, these proportions were 80 percent, 19 percent, and 0.4 percent, respectively.

According to a LifeSiteNews article, one out of four babies aborted early in the United States is killed by the abortion pill rather than a surgical procedure.

The chemical abortion method consists of first administering mifepristone, also known as RU-486, which kills the child before misoprostol is given two days later, a drug that induces the mother to expel the dead baby’s corpse.

These numbers of chemical abortions do not include the use of the morning after pill and other hormonal birth control, which can cause a pre-implantation abortion. The morning after pill is sold over the counter in drugstores nationwide.

Join Pro-Life Wisconsin in making a difference

Late last month, the Wisconsin State Journal chronicled a prominent atheist’s efforts to pay for poor women to abort their children — a campaign that has financed the death of nearly 20,000 children. As usual, abortion is the only option the so-called “pro-choice” community is willing to support. The fund won’t offer a dime to help with prenatal health care, adoption support or baby supplies.

But there is good news: In November 2009, Pro-Life Wisconsin initiated a billboard campaign that displays the Option Line (a 24/7 hotline that offers women REAL options that don’t kill a child or dramatically increase the mother’s risk of suicide, addiction and breast cancer). Since then, hundreds of women in inner city Milwaukee have seen our ads and called to receive the support they need. Click here to view the billboard.

For $4,000, we can add yet another Milwaukee billboard that will be seen by thousands of people every day for a year. Will you make a donation to help us reach this goal so we can empower women to choose life and avoid the physical and emotional trauma wreaked by abortion?

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT! Because of this campaign’s demonstrated success, generous pro-life leaders have pledged to match each donation up to $2,000.

A gift of any amount will be matched so click here to make a donation over our secure web portal. You can also make a pledge by calling (262) 796-1111 extension 10 or sending a check (Write “billboards” in the memo line!) to: Pro-Life Wisconsin Education Task Force, 19270 North Hills Drive, Brookfield, WI 53008-0221.
