Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on the From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, March 28
edition: Think you’re smarter
than UW docs? By columnist Patrick McIlheran The pro-lifers thought they had
the Fools. Who precisely did these
pro-lifers think they were dealing with? The university knows its way around
the law. And over, under and behind it, too. The matter does look pretty
straightforward. At the UW med school, students
training to be gynecologists learn abortions at Planned Parenthood. Nor is it
just students: Medical residents, who are paid for their work, wield
the forceps, too. UW faculty supervise this. "They're basically training
future abortionists by sending them to Planned Parenthood," said
Virginia Zignego, Pro-Life Wisconsin spokeswoman. The group knew about the
rotation for years, said Zignego, but learned the monetary details via an
open records request. "UWHC has been paying for
the rotation to date. We will continue to do so. Please let Planned
Parenthood know," reads one of the obtained e-mails, by Carl
J. Getto, for instance. He's the medical school's associate dean of hospital
affairs. Click here to read the rest of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article. As a recent story out of Pro-Life Juneau
County District Attorney warns school districts about new sex education
mandates In a March 24 letter sent to the five public school
districts in Juneau County, District Attorney Scott Southworth warns that the
new sexual education law recently passed by the Wisconsin Legislature and
signed by Governor Doyle could expose district school teachers to criminal
liability and school districts to civil liability for promoting “the
sexualization – and sexual assault – of our children.” Early teen sexual activity, even if consensual, is against
the law. Wisconsin Statutes 948.02(2) states, “(w)hoever has sexual contact or sexual intercourse with a person who
has not attained the age of 16 years is guilty of a Class C felony.” Southworth
points out that the new law, 2009 Wisconsin Act 134, requires public schools
that choose to have human growth and development programs to provide
instruction on the proper use of contraceptives. The letter states “(f)orcing
our schools to instruct children on how to utilize contraceptives encourages
our children to engage in sexual behavior, whether as a victim or an
offender…, our schools districts should never promote illegal activity.” Wisconsin Statutes 948.40 criminalizes “Contributing to the Delinquency of a Child.” Southworth explains in the letter that a
teacher who instructs any student aged 16 or younger how to use
contraceptives could be charged under this statute. The letter states, “(d)epending
on the specific facts of a case referred to my office upon a complaint by a
parent, another teacher or a child, this encouragement and advocacy could
lead to criminal charges. Our teachers should never be put in this
position.” Southworth concludes his letter by urging the These are not scare tactics by District Attorney
Southworth. Rather, his is a simple reading of current criminal law and how
Act 134 bumps up against it with potential serious consequences for our
teachers, school board members and district administrators. Pro-Life Pro-Life
