Forcing Birth Control Coverage
is Forcing Abortion Coverage

In reaction to Attorney General Lautenschlager’s recent legal opinion on contraceptive coverage, some have argued that mandating employer insurance coverage of birth control would be a slippery slope ending in mandated abortion coverage.

“The truth of the matter is that most if not all hormonal birth control drugs and devices can and often do act to chemically abort an unborn child,” stated Peggy Hamill, Pro-Life Wisconsin state director. “Forcing birth control coverage is forcing abortion coverage.”

Hormonal “contraceptives” such as the morning-after pill, the patch, and the pill can work in three ways: to suppress ovulation, to inhibit the movement of sperm, or to irritate the lining of the uterus so that a newly conceived child is unable to implant in the womb, thus starving and dying. This last action is chemical abortion. One need only explore the websites or package inserts of individual “contraceptive” brand-name drugs or devices to verify their abortion causing effect.

“Government-mandated chemical abortion coverage is obnoxious and immoral,” concluded Hamill. “Employers who offer prescription drug plans should not be compelled to violate their consciences by either providing ‘birth control’ coverage or dumping their health benefits altogether.”
