House to Vote on Health Care Reform Bill Tomorrow
Public option includes premium to fund elective abortions

Pro-Life Wisconsin is calling on its supporters statewide to contact their congressmen and urge them to oppose House Resolution (H.R.) 3962, the Affordable Health Care for America Act. The legislation authorizes the “public option” to pay for all elective abortions. Enrollees in the government-run plan will be forced to pay a monthly premium to fund abortions covered by the plan. House debate on H.R. 3962 will begin Saturday morning, November 7.

“If H.R. 3962 becomes law, millions more preborn children will perish,” said Pro-Life Wisconsin Director of Legislation Matt Sande. “Not only will more of the most innocent among us die, but the bill’s forced abortion premium will violate the consciences of millions of pro-life Americans. It is appalling that our government would force so many citizens who are in dire need of affordable health care coverage to participate in the slaughter of their preborn brothers and sisters. We are making our voices heard on Capitol Hill.”

Today House Democratic Leadership is expected to establish a “Rule” that will block the only pro-life amendment that explicitly excludes abortion funding from the bill – the Stupak-Pitts Amendment. The Rule will allow a vote on the Ellsworth Amendment which permits federal funding of abortion in the public plan as well as government subsidization of private plans that include abortion. Pro-Life Wisconsin is urging its supporters to call and email their congressmen and tell them to vote against both the Rule and H.R. 3962.

“We are a people of prayer and action,” said Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director Peggy Hamill. “We pray for the conversion of President Obama, Majority Leader Reid and Speaker Pelosi to the side of life. And we pressure them to protect the inalienable right to life articulated in the Declaration of Independence. This is a defining hour in the history of our nation. May the side of life prevail.”
