Pro-Life Wisconsin remembers the 49.6 million victims of abortion on fourth annual Pro-Life Memorial Day

Pro-Life Wisconsin supporters across the state are gathering today for prayer services to remember the approximately 49.6 million victims of surgical abortion since 1973. The first Monday of October has been designated by American Life League as Pro-Life Memorial Day. This year is the fourth annual observance of Pro-Life Memorial Day which will be marked by prayer services held by Pro-Life Wisconsin affiliates in communities across the state.

“What makes Pro-Life Memorial Day unique,” said Peggy Hamill, state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin, “is that it is a day set aside solely to reflect on the victims of abortion. While pro-lifers gather throughout the year to protest the legality of abortion or draw attention to women harmed by abortion, the first Monday of October is a time to grieve and reflect on the massive human tragedy wrought by our society since abortion was legalized.”

The first Monday of October was designated as Pro-Life Memorial Day in part to correspond with the annual opening of the Supreme Court session. Pro-Life Memorial Day will remind both the American public and the Supreme Court justices of the unjust decisions of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton.

“The Supreme Court must sooner or later re-address the question of the ‘personhood’ of preborn children. Scientifically, it’s indisputable that embryos and fetuses are human beings,” said Hamill. “Pro-Life Memorial Day will hopefully remind the justices that they have arbitrarily excluded a large class of human beings from the protection of the law.”

The following prayer vigils will be held today by Pro-Life Wisconsin affiliate groups:
- PLW Milwaukee/Waukesha County, Affiliated Medical Service in Milwaukee at 7 p.m.
- PLW Dane County, Planned Parenthood on Orin Road in Madison, 3 p.m.
