Planned Parenthood to Lose Business and Clients If Personhood Recognized for the Preborn

“Planned Parenthood has a lot to lose if the Supreme Court recognizes the personhood of the preborn. Abortion is big business, and Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in the country. No wonder they are worried,” said Marc Tuttle, Communications Director for Pro-Life Wisconsin.

According to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s 2004 annual report, they performed 3,102 abortions in the state making them by far the largest abortionist in Wisconsin. Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin took in over $8.5 million in patient fees in 2004 and received another $5 million from taxpayers at the federal, state and local levels. According to the Isthmus, Planned Parenthood on Orin Road (next to MATC) on the east side of Madison performs approx. 25 abortions a week. They’ve been in business two years – if you multiply out 25 abortions per week at $350 - $500, its easy to see how much revenue Planned Parenthood draws from abortion. Of course, this is just one of three facilities in Wisconsin where Planned Parenthood commits abortions. Could this be the real reason they are so adamant that abortion stays legal?

The Senate is set to begin hearings for Judge Samuel Alito, Jr. this week. Alito is known as a constructionist and also has made statements in the past that indicate he may be favorable to overturning Roe v. Wade.

“If you read Blackmun’s decision in Roe v. Wade, the crux of the issue is the recognition of personhood. Blackmun left the door open for the end of abortion by stating that if its ever established that the preborn are persons, the 14th amendment protections would apply to fetuses and embryos,” said Tuttle.

Currently, there is legislation being discussed at least in Indiana and South Dakota that would challenge the Courts stance that the preborn are not persons. It’s likely that other states are discussing similar legislation.

“If the Supreme Court ever realizes the injustice of excluding certain classes of humans from being legally protected as persons, Planned Parenthood stands to lose a lot of business,” added Tuttle.
