Mary Rivard and Clare Von Rueden receive 2008 Sharon Schumer Memorial Scholarship from Pro-Life Wisconsin

Brookfield, Wis. -- Pro-Life Wisconsin is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2008 Sharon Schumer Memorial Scholarship: Mary Rivard from Reedsburg Area High School and Clare Von Rueden from Trinity Academy in Pewaukee.

The Sharon Schumer Scholarship rewards Wisconsin youth for pro-life service and encourages them to be soldiers for life on their college campuses. Mary will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Baraboo and Clare will be attending Franciscan University of Steubenville next year, where they will continue their already substantial pro-life efforts.

Mary plans to bring her past participation in various pro-life events to bear on her college campus, even going so far as to form a group with 100% commitment to life if none exists. She believes that a group of pro-life collegians could have great influence by working to share the pro-life message within their community, to serve others, and to educate peers on campus about abortion, euthanasia, etc.

Clare also plans to continue her pro-life involvement, both on campus and in the community, particularly through her support of a local pregnancy help center. She hopes to conduct drives, with community support, to obtain necessary supplies and money to aid young mothers in need. She confesses it isn’t much of a sacrifice on her part because she enjoys it so much, especially encompassing her hobby of crocheting baby items.

Mary and Clare have been recognized and honored at their respective senior award or graduation ceremony in their communities. In addition, the Pro-Life Wisconsin Education Task Force has awarded them each $500 their first year of college. They will be awarded an additional $500 their second year, pending continued pro-life leadership on their college campuses.

Pro-Life Wisconsin congratulates Mary and Clare and thanks all the worthy applicants for their dedication to the pro-life cause. Attention high school juniors: envision yourself as the winner of the 2008 Sharon Schumer Memorial Scholarship, and consider working towards this very worthwhile goal.
