Pro-Life Wisconsin Announces Recipients of the
2004 Sharon Schumer Memorial Scholarship
Pro-Life Wisconsin is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2004 Pro-Life Wisconsin Sharon Schumer Memorial Scholarship: Mike Breidenbach of Cedarburg and Rebecca Hannemann of Kaukauna.
“Our scholarship rewards young people for pro-life service and encourages them to be soldiers for life on their college campuses,” said PLW state director Peggy Hamill. “It was named after former board member Sharon Schumer, who dedicated her life to raising up principled, passionate young pro-life leaders.”
Mike will graduate from Cedarburg High School and plans to study government, communication studies and psychology at Northwestern University. Rebecca will graduate from Kaukauna High School and plans to study elementary education with a Spanish minor at UW-Stevens Point.
Of his pro-life activities, Mike says, “My best experiences come not from thought but from action. With the help of my parents’ strong conviction, I have fulfilled many pro-life activities in hopes that one sign, one prayer, one voice – will change one mind.”
Rebecca claims, “I grew up in a family that not only said they were pro-life, but lived it.” Rebecca lived it by traveling across the country with her mother to help out with workshops, seminars, and conferences, even being a presenter herself. She also helps local unwed mothers, underprivileged families, and special needs families, and is involved with post-abortion healing.
“We were so impressed with the many applications we received this year,” continued Hamill. “It’s encouraging for all of us to know so many young people are committed to protecting innocent human life.”
Mike Breidenbach and Rebecca Hannemann will be awarded the scholarships before their peers, teachers, and families during their senior awards ceremonies this Wednesday. They will also be recognized at the annual Pro-Life Wisconsin Fall Banquet to be held on October 8 at the Country Inn in Pewaukee, Wisconsin.
Congratulations, Mike and Rebecca! (Click on links to see their photos in the Pro-Life Wisconsin website Photo Gallery.)
