Pro-Life Wisconsin applauds Rep. Sherman's statement; reminds legislators that only a total human cloning ban is acceptable

Pro-Life Wisconsin applauded today's announcement by Rep. Gary Sherman (D-Port Wing) that he opposes human cloning. However, the statewide educational and legislative organization is doubtful that the legislation Sherman plans to introduce will truly ban human cloning in Wisconsin.

"If Rep. Sherman truly wants to stop the actions which he compares to 'Nazi Eugenics', he should become a co-sponsor of Rep. Steve Kestell's comprehensive cloning ban immediately," said Mary Matuska, legislative director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. "Any bill that allows human cloning in certain circumstances, so that cloned humans can be killed for research purposes, isn't a true ban on human cloning . . . it's window dressing meant to deceive Wisconsinites."

Matuska said Pro-Life Wisconsin is preparing to launch a massive educational effort in the state to remind citizens that some who claim to oppose human cloning don't support efforts to truly stop the practice.

"We're confident that once people realize what cloning is, they'll call for the defeat of any phony cloning bill that doesn't recognize the sanctity of innocent human life and ban all forms of human cloning," she said.
