Pro-Life Wisconsin says, “Turn off the bubble machine”

Pro-Life Wisconsin issued a legislative memo urging lawmakers not to cosponsor the Richards/Risser “bubble zone” bill. This measure would create a floating eight foot buffer zone around any person entering or exiting a healthcare facility in Wisconsin. The zone would apply within a hundred foot radius of the facility.

“It is imperative that the civil liberties of those engaged in the abortion debate are protected,” stated Matt Sande, direct of legislative affairs for Pro-Life Wisconsin. “This bill is yet another attempt to silence peaceful pro-life people who are offering what may be a mother’s only exposure to a message of hope and life for her and her preborn child.”

“I hate to burst Rep. Richards’(D-Milwaukee) and Sen. Risser’s (D-Madison) bubble, but this legislation is unwarranted,” said Peggy Hamill, state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. “Existing state and federal laws are currently (oppressively) being employed against demonstrators who allegedly impede those entering abortion facilities. This bill goes much further, targeting those who simply express their opinion on public property.”

Continued Hamill, “If they think we’re going to let them set up the mechanism to produce these bubble zones, they are mistaken. We’ll turn off the bubble machine.”
