Proposed Amendment Guts Conscience Right Protection Bill

Pro-Life Wisconsin is urging rejection of an amendment to Assembly Bill (AB) 67 that would strip from the original bill any protections for medical professionals, including pharmacists, who refuse to provide chemical abortion-causing drugs or devices, including the “morning after pill.”

Alarmingly, Wisconsin Right to Life has drafted an amendment to AB 67, on behalf of the bill’s author Representative Jean Hundertmark (R-Clintonville), that specifically excludes “contraceptive articles” from the drugs and devices that medical professionals would be protected in refusing to provide. Most, if not all of so-called “contraceptives,” can work to block a fully human embryo from implanting in the uterine wall, thus causing chemical abortion.

“Conscience protections must expand as chemical assaults on human life broaden,” said Peggy Hamill, State Director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. “We are deeply saddened that Wisconsin Right to Life, apparently for political expediency, is willing to sacrifice employment protections for pro-life medical personnel who refuse to participate in chemical abortion. From a principled, pro-life perspective, this amendment is senseless.”

Pro-Life Wisconsin supports Assembly Bill 67 as originally drafted, as the bill establishes employment protections for medical professionals who conscientiously refuse to engage in abortion, euthanasia, and other life threatening practices. Pro-Life Wisconsinites are speaking out in force, from all corners of the state, against this dangerous, anti-life amendment.

A vote for the amendment to AB 67 or for the final bill as amended will be scored as an “anti-life” vote by Pro-Life Wisconsin.
