Southworth “Emboldened” By Local Support

Mauston, WI . . . Juneau County District Attorney Scott Harold Southworth thanked the voters of Juneau County for continued support after a recall group failed to turn in any signatures to the Government Accountability Board by the 5:00 p.m. deadline yesterday.

“I am both humbled and emboldened by the strong public support I’ve received over the past few weeks.  I will continue to enforce the law and stand up for the values of Juneau County residents while serving as their representative in our judicial system.”

Southworth said that hundreds of individuals publicly expressed their support for his work as District Attorney.  He also pledged to continue to diligently prosecute crimes and create initiatives like the newly-established Juneau County Diversion Program.

Southworth said the small group of individuals who initiated the recall effort do not speak for the majority of voters in Juneau County.

“Sadly, there will always be bitter and angry individuals in our community.  However, we must continue to move forward with positive initiatives that make a real difference.  I thank the silent majority for standing with me as we make Juneau County a better place,” Southworth said.

Juneau County has approximately 23,000 eligible voters.  The recall committee needed only 2,072 valid signatures (approximately 9%) in order to force a recall election.
