HEADLINES

1.  PLW  wishes you a Happy (and prayer-filled) Memorial Day!

Memorial Day has always been one of our favorite holidays at Pro-Life Wisconsin.  Families

and friends gather for picnics, sporting events and reunions all in an effort to display a small

amount of gratitude to those who laid down their life in defense of country and all our country

stands for.

Memorial Day started as a day to honor the fallen heroes of the Civil War, our country’s most

bloody war so far.  At the heart of the struggle was the issue of slavery, an institution that denied

the inalienable rights of the powerless for the benefit of society.  In our own times, the inalienable

right to life is being denied to the preborn, behind the veiled argument that their deaths are a

benefit to society.

As we remember those who gave their lives to protect our rights this day, let us all include a small

prayer that God would deliver us from abortion and restore the legal protection of the lives of all

people in our country.  After all, our fallen war heroes were fighting for the rights of all of us – born

and preborn.

2.  Neil Noesen case featured in ALL's Celebrate Life magazine

Pharmacist Dr. Neil Noesen, a long time supporter and friend of Pro-Life Wisconsin, is featured

in the May/June issue of American Life League’s Celebrate Life (learn more about Celebrate Life).

PLW’s Legislative Director Matt Sande is featured prominently in the article articulating PLW’s

defense of Noesen.  Dr. Noesen has faced immense personal hardship and trial for conscientiously

refusing to fill a prescription for a hormonal contraceptive drug.

Noesen was publicly reprimanded by the Pharmacy Examining Board, who limited his pharmacy

license by requiring him to provide in writing what practices he will decline to perform as well as a

plan of action to ensure that patients still have access to these drugs.  In addition, Dr. Noesen is

required to notify any potential employer of the courts actions against him and complete a series

of “ethics” courses stipulating how he is to conduct himself in the future.

 3. Pro-Life Wisconsin's newest brochure on organ donation

Pro-Life Wisconsin is happy to announce the release of our newest

brochure WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE: ORGAN DONORS. This

handy pocket-sized brochure explores whether “brain death” is

truly death – an issue which many people considering organ donation

don’t realize is medically controversial.

The brochure was authored by Paul A. Byrne, M.D., Clinical Professor

of Pediatrics at Medical University of Ohio, and edited by Julie Grimstad,

PLW’s expert on end-of-life issues. Dr. Byrne, a neonatologist, became

concerned about “brain death” when, in 1975, a patient’s EEG

(electroencephalogram) was interpreted as “consistent with cerebral

death.” Dr. Byrne continued treatment. That patient is now a husband

and father, and works as a fireman/paramedic. In order to give informed consent or refusal to organ

donation, you need the vital information Dr. Byrne provides.

To obtain your copy of WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE: ORGAN DONORS, call Pro-Life Wisconsin at

1-877-GOD’S WILL (1-877-463-7945) or e-mail office@prolifewisconsin.org.

4Pro-Life Wisconsin affiliates to commemorate Griswold v. Connecticut

                                                                                                                 – June 7th

Keep Tuesday June 7th reserved on your calendars for a

major pro-life event across Wisconsin.  Several of PLW’s affiliates

will be marking the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Griswold v.

Connecticut decision on June 7th.

Though less infamous than Roe v. Wade, the Griswold case was

no less devastating to the moral fiber of our country.  It de-criminalized

the sale and distribution of contraceptives and interjected into our

legal system a notion that amounts to a right to do evil.

Griswold v. Connecticut has been cited in Roe v. Wade and

Lawrence v. Texas – a case overturning that Texas’ anti-sodomy

law – among other cases that have overturned state laws regulating

immoral behavior.

PLW affiliates will mark the day with public witness and prayer

services in front of Wisconsin contraception clinics, and several affiliates have planned picnics or other

social gatherings to celebrate God’s plan for the family.

As of today, affiliate events are scheduled for Milwaukee (in West Allis), Mauston, and Ozaukee

County.  Watch for upcoming Monday Updates for times and locations as well as additional

affiliate events.  Contact PLW’s state office to find out more information about events near you,

or for help planning a Griswold v. Connecticut event in your home town.

Call Marc at (262) 796-1111.

The 40 Days for Life Prayer Vigil is in full swing in Green Bay, but volunteers are still needed!  The

Prayer Vigil lasts from now until June 18th, and many shifts are still available for you to bring your

family, friends or church members to participate.  In addition, more affiliate groups and volunteers

to supervise shifts are still desperately needed, especially during the first few weeks of the project!

If your affiliate or church can spare just four hours to pray for an end to abortion and intervene on behalf

of a child who is scheduled to die, please do not wait to sign up for a shift.   Please go to the website,

www.40daysforlifegb.com to sign up for an available shift, or call Marc at (262) 796-1111 to find

out when volunteers are needed.

In addition, join other participants of the 40 Days for Life Vigil at Baird Place in Green Bay on

Sunday, May 28th from 1p.m.-6:30 p.m. for a Festival of Life.  The Fesitval will mark the midway

point of the 40 Days for Life Vigil and will feature the live music of HeartBeat, Danen Kand and Erin
