Joe Scheidler to speak in Kenosha Thursday for Griswold v. Connecticut anniversary
Thursday, June 7 will mark the 42nd anniversary of the Griswold v. Connecticut Supreme Court decision. Pro-Life Wisconsinites will again be marking the day with prayer services and public witness across the state. Headlining PLW’s events this year will be a presentation by internationally renowned pro-life activist, Joe Scheidler. Joe is the founder and national director of the Chicago-based Pro-Life Action League. Joe will be speaking in Kenosha at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 7307 40th Avenue at 7 p.m. Joe Scheidler’s talk is free to the public. In the 1965 Griswold v. Connecticut Supreme Court ruling, the court struck down a Connecticut law prohibiting the sale and distribution of birth control drugs and devices. Justice William Douglas claimed to find a vague “right to privacy” in certain “penumbras, formed by emanations” from the bill of rights. This extra-constitutional notion of privacy was subsequently used by the court in the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision to usher in an era of unrestricted abortion on demand. “At Pro-Life Wisconsin, we won’t let June 7 pass without marking a symbolic moment of silence for all that we as Americans have lost,” said Marc Tuttle, communications director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. “If you were to look at American life in June of 1965 and compare it to American life today, the cultural decline is obvious. We now have a culture of pornography, teen pregnancy, abortion, divorce and random senseless violence that was simply unimaginable in 1965. All of this has been justified under a so-called ‘right to privacy’ that was established in the Griswold decision.” The rotten fruits of the Griswold ruling are evident even today. In Madison this Friday, the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee is scheduled to vote on expanding the Medicaid Family Planning Waiver Program. Pro-Life Wisconsin has been working to protect teen girls from this physically and morally destructive program since its inception. The Family Planning Waiver Program currently provides free, taxpayer-funded birth control to 15, 16 and 17-year-old girls without their parents’ knowledge or consent. This undermines parental authority and increases underage pregnancy, abortion, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) by encouraging sexual promiscuity. The Governor’s budget proposal expands the program to include men age 15 to 44.
“By commemorating the Griswold decision our affiliates are raising awareness about the judicial tyranny that has been going on for over 40 years,” said Peggy Hamill, state director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. “Ever since the Griswold decision, the courts have arbitrarily protected all sorts of immorality, all under the banner of so-called ‘privacy.’ Those who are appalled about the condition of our culture should have both a moral and civic interest in exposing the fraud that began with the Griswold decision.”
In addition to Joe Scheidler’s presentation, Griswold v. Connecticut prayer services will be held on Thursday in West Allis, Madison, Appleton, Waukesha, Mauston, Delavan, Johnson Creek and LaCrosse. These events will take place tomorrow at the following locations and times:
