Defund Planned Parenthood in federal budget
Include Pence Amendment in Continuing Resolution
In February, members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted 240 to 185 to pass an amendment sponsored by Congressman Mike Pence of Indiana that would totally defund Planned Parenthood's national organization and its102 named affiliates. Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) performs more than 324,000 abortions annually and receives more than $363 million annually in federal, state, and local taxpayer funds - one third of their annual budget!
The Pence Amendment is unique in that it does not alter the funding level of any federal "family planning" program, such as Title X, that feeds organizations that perform or refer for abortions. Rather, it specifically names PPFA and all its nationwide affiliates (including Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin) and strips them of all federal funding. To view the text of the amendment, click here.
The U.S. Senate failed to pass the Pence Amendment language and both houses have simply passed short-term continuing resolutions maintaining the status quo as they attempt to hammer out a budget for the current fiscal year. But this stalling will come to an end, and it is critical that the final continuing resolution contain the Pence Amendment language.
Tell your congressmen to defund Planned Parenthood NOW!
Please call or email your U.S. Representative and U.S. Senators and tell them to include the Pence Amendment in the final Continuing Resolution as a non-negotiable budget item. Urge them to "STOP TAXPAYER FUNDING OF ABORTIONS: DEFUND PLANNED PARENTHOOD!"
