The Truth About Emergency Contraception
Goes to College

Students at Wisconsin’s largest colleges, opening their student newspapers this spring, are seeing a reminder from Pro-Life Wisconsin, advising them to make smart choices about their health.

“These ads are an integral part of what Pro-Life Wisconsin’s True to Life media campaign is all about,” said Peggy Hamill, State Director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. “I see promotions for emergency contraception everywhere, but no one is talking about what it actually does to the woman and to the baby.”

The ads are in UW-Madison’s Badger Herald, UW-Milwaukee’s Post, UW-Green Bay’s Fourth Estate and the Marquette University Tribune. The ads raise awareness about what emergency contraception (EC) is, how it works and the health risks it poses.

“I am thrilled to have these ads in college newspapers throughout Wisconsin, reaching more than 40,000 students, faculty and staff,” said Virginia Zignego, Communications Director.

Emergency contraception is a powerful, high dose of steroids that tricks a woman’s body into thinking it is pregnant. These steroids can cause pre-implantation chemical abortions and can harm women’s health.

The ads encourage students to “Make smart choices… that way you won’t have any emergencies to deal with the morning after!”

In the past, some University of Wisconsin campuses have promoted EC to students, urging them to “prepare” by stocking up on it.

Pro-Life Wisconsin, in partnership with Human Life Alliance, also sponsored pro-life inserts this spring in a number of Wisconsin college newspapers. The 12-page insert, called ...iCare, is a compelling pro-life resource designed to educate people about chemical and surgical abortion.
